For any player new to raiding, the biggest hurdle they will initially face is the fact that their skills might not be enough for a demanding raid leader. This is especially true in the case of hybrid classes like the Paladin, Druid, and Shaman who may be asked to shift specs and totally alter their playing style for the greater good of the raid. If you are new to the raid and want to prove yourself worthy and deserving of a permanent spot in the raid, you will need to be flexible and willing to learn. However, in some cases, you will not be expected to change your playstyle too drastically. For instance, pure damage dealers like the Rogue, Hunter, Warlock and Mage have roles in a raid that do not change too much, besides the odd request to change specs to unlock certain abilities for specific situations. In this case, they will need to concentrate on improving their DPS. This usually involves using more effective spell rotations and learning their class inside out. However, those of you out there with hybrid classes such as the Paladin, Druid, Shaman, or Death Knight (and sometimes Priest), will find that your role in the fight becomes much more fluid. In some fights, a DK or Druid might prove to be a more effective tank for resistance reasons while Shamans might be great at support in one fight and work as off healers in another fight. The long and short of it is that if you have abilities that work for tanking, dps and healing together on your character, you should be ready to use any of them at any time. In a raid, once the fight is started, you’ll almost always have a set position to work on. You’re not going to be tanking for one trash mob, then DPS for the next and then Healing on a boss. But, between bosses or instances as a whole, you might find that the needs of your raid party change and that is when you should be willing to switch. Another thing to remember is the need to be honest at all times. For instance, if you are a Holy Paladin who is clueless about tanking, you will need to come clean immediately. This will help you avoid embarrassing situations especially if you fail at the task repeatedly, thereby earning the wrath of your teammates and more importantly, the raid leader.

Your adventures in Cataclysm truly open up once you reach level 85, and there are a lot of things to keep your hands full once you reach this stage. You can play your version of In-Game Tycoon by dominating the Auction House. You can hone your skills as a PvP god in Arena and Battleground play. Or you could take the route taken by millions of your peers and allocate 2-3 nights towards conquering all the dungeons and raids the new expansion has to offer. There are currently 4 raid instances in Cataclysm (Blackwing Descent, Throne of Four Winds, Baradin Hold and Bastion of Twilight) with a brand new one called Firelands destined to hit in the coming months. But, for anyone that is relatively new to the game or who has spent most of their end-game time doing other activities, stepping into dungeons and raids can be an intimidating experience, especially with all the elitist players out there who look down on anyone without a Tier 11 piece to show. So, how do you start small and build your way up in a game that requires so much time investment and careful attention to detail to pull things off? It may seem overwhelming at first, but the truth is that if you start small and work your way up to the hardest, most time devouring content in the game, you’ll quickly find that there are many ways to take on this content without getting completely destroyed each time. You should endeavor to play with a group of like-minded and responsible individuals. Most of the time people think way too far ahead. Or they want to take the shortcut to epics and stick with already geared players, hoping to hitch a ride on the Epic Express. Unfortunately this will never work, as you don’t learn anything this way. A more reliable way is to find a group of players on the same skill level as you and work your way slowly but surely to the top. Secondly, you shouldn’t expect results from the get-go. If you’re still new to raiding, you will have to be patient. Wipes will inevitably happen so the correct mindset to adopt is a never give up attitude. Try and try again until you finally reach the finish line. You will also need to do some research of your own instead of stepping into an instance with nary a clue of what’s going to happen. With the vast amount of resources available on the internet, this shouldn’t be a problem. Keep these tips at the back of your mind and I guarantee you will achieve the success you’re looking for in your raiding adventures. Good luck!

The Paladin is truly one of the most awesome classes in World of Warcraft and one that you should try at least once in your life. Balance Druids in particular are a very efficient ranged spellcaster, somewhat similar to a Mage in play style. Feral Druids are essentially a rouge that also have the ability to heal themselves. However they have a complex rotation to follow and are usually below a rogue or other melee DPS in the damage meters but they make up for it with tremendous utility as they have abilities that buff the abilities of their counterparts in the raid. Since they still retain all the core Druid abilities like Innervate and Battle Resurrection, they make excellent support casters as well. The shaman is described as the spiritual leader of his tribe and clan and master of the elements. As a hybrid class, he is one of the most versatile classes in the game, capable of being a healer, melee or ranged damage dealer, depending on how you choose to spend your character’s talent points. In addition, they come with an awesome array of buffs in the form of totems, which when planted on the ground will provide your group with various boosts to their abilities. At the beginning, the shaman is only able to wear cloth and leather armor but will be able to equip mail starting at level 40. This ensures they are not overly squishy but naturally they’re not as durable as Warrior or Paladin who wear plate. They can wield various weapons ranging from 1-hand maces, daggers, axes, shields, fist weapons or staves. If you are so inclined, you may also learn to wield 2-hand axes and maces by investing points into your Enhancement tree. Totems are what separate the Shaman from the rest of the other classes and it is also the driving force behind the shaman’s adaptability in combat. Up to four can be dropped on the ground at any given time, and the buffs they grant your entire group can be divided into the 4 major elements :- Earth, Fire, Wind and Water and only one element can be channeled at any given time.
